As part of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s ongoing Pet of the Week feature, Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez continues to raise awareness of shelter animals available for adoption and encourage residents to support local animal welfare efforts.

Each week, the campaign spotlights two pets currently in the care of Miami-Dade Animal Services. The feature provides residents with basic information about each animal and makes it easier to learn more about adoption opportunities.

This week’s featured pets are Amos (#A2783296), a handsome 2-year-old American Bulldog mix, and Coco (#A2811249), a sweet 6-year-old cat. Both are looking for a second chance and a loving home.

Amos arrived at the shelter as a stray in April and is still waiting for someone to give him the home he deserves. He is a sweet, energetic boy who is highly treat-motivated, knows how to “sit,” and has an adorable head tilt that is sure to make you smile. Amos would do best as the only pet in the home, where he can enjoy all the attention from his new family.

Coco is a strictly indoor cat who is loving and affectionate, although she may need a little time to come out of her shell and become comfortable with her new family. Her previous owner shared that she is good with dogs. Because Coco has spine and hip issues, she does not enjoy being carried and would do best in a home where she can receive gentle handling. With patience, love, and time to settle in, Coco can make a wonderful companion.

Local shelters regularly care for dogs and cats that have been lost, abandoned, surrendered, or separated from their families. While they wait for placement, shelter teams provide food, medical treatment, behavioral support, enrichment, and daily care.

Adoption gives shelter pets a permanent home while also creating space and resources for other animals in need. Fostering is another valuable option, particularly for pets that may need time outside the shelter to recover, socialize, or adjust to a home environment before adoption.

Residents who are not ready to adopt or foster can still help by volunteering, donating needed supplies, sharing weekly pet features, and encouraging friends and family to consider shelter adoption.

The Pet of the Week campaign is intended to connect more residents with adoptable animals and highlight the ongoing work of Miami-Dade Animal Services. By featuring two pets every week, the Tax Collector’s Office hopes to increase visibility for shelter animals and help more of them find permanent homes.

Residents can learn more about Amos, Coco, and other available pets by scanning the QR codes included in the weekly graphics or by contacting Miami-Dade Animal Services.
