Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez and members of the Tax Collector’s Office stepped outside their traditional roles and into the kitchen for a day of community service with Mitzvah Kitchen, helping prepare fresh meals for residents and families in need throughout Miami-Dade County.
The volunteer effort gave employees an opportunity to serve side by side while supporting an organization that has made a significant impact in a short period of time. In its first 12 months, Mitzvah Kitchen has donated more than 20,000 meals and served approximately 4,000 people across the community, providing food and support to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
“As your Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I believe public service is about more than the work we do behind a counter or inside an office,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “It is also about showing up for our community, lending a hand where it is needed, and finding meaningful ways to serve. I was proud to see our team working together for such an important cause.”
Fernandez also highlighted the value of employee involvement in community service, noting that experiences like this strengthen teamwork while reinforcing the office’s broader commitment to the people it serves. Preparing meals together provided employees with an opportunity to connect outside the workplace while contributing directly to a mission that supports thousands of residents.
Fernandez thanked Rabbi Yossi Harlig and the entire Mitzvah Kitchen team for welcoming the Tax Collector’s Office and for their continued dedication to helping families throughout Miami-Dade. He also thanked the employees who volunteered their time and helped make the day a meaningful example of public service in action.
