Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez attended a welcoming reception aboard the B.A.P. Unión during the Peruvian Navy training ship’s visit to Miami. The event brought together diplomatic representatives, community leaders, military officials, and guests to recognize the ship’s arrival and celebrate the longstanding ties between Peru, the United States, and South Florida.

The B.A.P. Unión serves as an important symbol of Peru’s naval tradition, history, and international presence. Its visit to Miami provided an opportunity to highlight the cultural, diplomatic, and community connections that continue to strengthen the relationship between both nations and bring together the large Peruvian community that calls South Florida home.

During the reception, Fernandez had the opportunity to greet Foreign Minister Carlos Espá, U.S. Ambassador Bernie Navarro, and General Francis L. Donovan of U.S. Southern Command, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation and strong relations between the United States and Peru. The gathering reflected the deep ties between both countries and the important role Miami-Dade plays as a bridge between the United States and Latin America.

“Miami-Dade is home to people from across Latin America, and occasions like this remind us of the strong cultural and historic ties that connect our communities,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “It was a privilege to be aboard the B.A.P. Unión, to greet Foreign Minister Carlos Espá, Ambassador Bernie Navarro, and General Francis L. Donovan, and to recognize the enduring friendship between the United States and Peru. These relationships are strengthened through dialogue, mutual respect, cooperation, and the communities that continue to preserve these important traditions.”

Fernandez thanked Consul David Vergara for the invitation and for the opportunity to participate in the reception. He also expressed his appreciation to everyone who made the visit possible and recognized the Peruvian community of South Florida for its many contributions to the cultural, civic, and economic life of Miami-Dade County.
