Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez visited Ortega Nursery Farms and spent time with Carlos Ortega Sr. and his family, whose business has served the South Florida community for three generations. The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the family’s history, their connection to agriculture, and the work that has allowed the nursery to grow and remain part of Miami-Dade’s business community for decades.
Since 1999, the Ortega family has built Ortega Nursery Farms through hard work, dedication, and a strong commitment to their customers and community. Their story reflects the important role family-owned businesses play throughout Miami-Dade County, creating jobs, supporting local families, and preserving industries and traditions that contribute to the character of South Florida.
“As your Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I believe family-owned businesses like Ortega Nursery Farms represent the determination and entrepreneurial spirit that make our community special,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “For three generations, the Ortega family has invested their time, energy, and hard work into building something that supports their family, creates opportunities for others, and contributes to our local economy.”
Fernandez emphasized that supporting local businesses also means maintaining a government that is accessible and responsive to the people who invest and create jobs in the community. As the office responsible for Local Business Tax Receipts, the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office works directly with businesses throughout the county and remains committed to providing clear information, efficient service, and assistance to entrepreneurs.
Fernandez thanked Carlos Ortega Sr. and the entire Ortega family for the warm welcome and congratulated them on the continued success of Ortega Nursery Farms. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the businesses, entrepreneurs, and families whose investments help Miami-Dade continue to grow and prosper.
