Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez is urging residents who receive a driver license or identification card cancellation notice from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) to act promptly and seek assistance from his office.
The notices, titled “Order of Cancellation,” advise affected residents that their state records are missing required proof of identity. They direct recipients to present their current immigration documents and proof of identity for review before the cancellation takes effect.
“For a working family, a driver license means being able to get to work, take your children to school, and care for the people who depend on you. I understand the concern a letter like this can cause,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “My message to residents is simple: Do not ignore it, and do not wait until the last minute. Our team is here to review your documents, explain what is required, and help you take the next step. We will uphold the law and treat every person who walks through our doors with dignity and respect.”
FLHSMV, in compliance with REAL ID statutes, issues the cancellation orders and establishes the requirements for Florida driver licenses and identification cards. The Tax Collector’s Office assists residents with document review and processes eligible transactions under those requirements. Each case depends on the documents presented and the required verification.
“Public service means being there when our residents need answers,” Fernandez added. “If you received a letter and have questions, reach out to us. We are here to serve you.”
