Dariel Fernandez, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, was honored to participate in today’s panel discussion as Miami Dade College welcomed its newest cohort of fellows for the Institute for Freedom in the Americas Fellowship. The discussion focused on explaining how local county government operates and how public services can be delivered with efficiency, transparency, accountability, and a people-first approach.
The Institute for Freedom in the Americas Fellowship brings together emerging leaders from across Latin America and the Caribbean who are committed to strengthening institutions, expanding economic opportunity, and advancing responsible governance throughout the region. This year’s fellows were selected from 21 different countries, reflecting the exceptional caliber and diversity of leaders helping shape the future of the Americas.
During the panel, Dariel Fernandez shared the ongoing efforts of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office to modernize government operations, reduce bureaucracy, improve accessibility to services, and create a more responsive experience for residents. The discussion highlighted the importance of innovation, transparency, and operational efficiency in building public trust and strengthening institutions at every level of government.
Dariel Fernandez also expressed his appreciation to Madeline Pumariega for the invitation and for her leadership in creating opportunities that connect public service, education, and international collaboration. He noted the importance of initiatives that encourage dialogue among leaders dedicated to promoting freedom, opportunity, and effective governance throughout the hemisphere.
