Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez is informing residents that the State of Florida will begin issuing a newly redesigned driver license and identification card statewide on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Beginning September 30, the new Florida credential will be available at driver license offices across the state and will become the only card design supported for in-office issuance. Florida’s previous card design will no longer be printed after September 29.
As the new credential is rolled out, residents may experience brief delays as the systems and equipment required to issue the redesigned cards are updated. The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office is working through the transition and will make every effort to minimize disruptions to service.
“A driver license or identification card is one of the most important documents Floridians carry, and when the State makes a change to that credential, residents should know exactly what to expect,” said Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “Our team is prepared to begin issuing the new design on September 30, and we are working to ensure a smooth transition for everyone who comes to us for service.”
The redesigned Florida credential incorporates several symbols and images associated with the state, including Florida oranges, a manatee, the Discovery Space Shuttle, Castillo de San Marcos, and an image of Florida. The new design includes credentials for adults, minors, and temporary non-domiciled customers.
“Residents will begin seeing this new design throughout Florida, and our responsibility in Miami-Dade is to make sure the change is clear and the service remains accessible,” Fernandez added. “Whether someone visits one of our offices or a TConnect Mobile Office in their community, we want them to know that our team is ready to assist them.”
Residents with questions or those who need driver license or identification card services are encouraged to contact the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office, visit any of our 13 locations, or take advantage of our TConnect Mobile Offices throughout the community.
