As part of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s ongoing Pet of the Week feature, Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez continues to raise awareness of shelter animals available for adoption and encourage residents to support local animal welfare efforts.
Each week, the campaign spotlights two pets currently in the care of Miami-Dade Animal Services. The feature provides residents with basic information about each animal and makes it easier to learn more about adoption opportunities.
This week’s featured pets are Boston (#A2796024), a handsome 3-year-old American Bulldog mix, and Princess (#A2809731), a sweet 10-year-old cat. Both are ready for a second chance and a loving home of their own.
Boston arrived at the shelter as a stray in June and is ready to leave shelter life behind. He is a big, playful boy who knows basic commands, including “sit” and “down,” and is highly motivated by tasty treats. With his playful personality and treat-loving heart, Boston is sure to make a wonderful addition to the right family.
Princess arrived at the shelter as a stray about two weeks ago with wounds on her lower back, believed to have been caused by an attack from another animal. After receiving care from the veterinary team, she is healing beautifully and is ready for a second chance. Princess is incredibly sweet and calm, loves to nap, and enjoys plenty of head rubs. This gentle senior girl is hoping to find a loving home where she can spend her golden years feeling safe, cherished, and loved.
Local shelters regularly care for dogs and cats that have been lost, abandoned, surrendered, or separated from their families. While they wait for placement, shelter teams provide food, medical treatment, behavioral support, enrichment, and daily care.
Adoption gives shelter pets a permanent home while also creating space and resources for other animals in need. Fostering is another valuable option, particularly for pets that may need time outside the shelter to recover, socialize, or adjust to a home environment before adoption.
Residents who are not ready to adopt or foster can still help by volunteering, donating needed supplies, sharing weekly pet features, and encouraging friends and family to consider shelter adoption.
The Pet of the Week campaign is intended to connect more residents with adoptable animals and highlight the ongoing work of Miami-Dade Animal Services. By featuring two pets every week, the Tax Collector’s Office hopes to increase visibility for shelter animals and help more of them find permanent homes.
Residents can learn more about Boston, Princess, and other available pets by scanning the QR codes included in the weekly graphics or by contacting Miami-Dade Animal Services.
