Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez attended the U.S.-Peru Bicentennial Celebration at Miami Dade College's historic Freedom Tower, commemorating 200 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Peru. The event brought together community leaders, diplomats, educators, and members of South Florida's vibrant Peruvian community to celebrate two centuries of friendship, cooperation, and the shared democratic values that continue to unite both nations.
Hosted at one of Miami's most iconic landmarks, the celebration recognized the lasting contributions of Peruvians and Peruvian Americans to the cultural, economic, and civic life of South Florida. The evening also highlighted the importance of strengthening international partnerships through education, cultural exchange, and collaboration while reaffirming the enduring ties between the United States and Peru.
"As your Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I am proud to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of the Peruvian community to our county and the strong friendship that has connected the United States and Peru for more than two centuries," said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. "Our community is stronger because of its diversity, and events like this remind us that the relationships we build across cultures enrich Miami-Dade and create opportunities for future generations."
During the ceremony, Ambassador Bernie Navarro was presented with an Honorary Citation recognizing his distinguished leadership and commitment to strengthening the relationship between the United States and Peru. Fernandez congratulated Ambassador Navarro on the well-deserved recognition and thanked Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega and everyone involved in organizing a celebration that honored the past while looking toward an even stronger future between both nations.
