Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez visited Brooks Tropicals to learn more about its operations and the important role agriculture continues to play in South Miami-Dade. The visit provided an opportunity to see firsthand the work behind an industry that supports local families, creates jobs, contributes to the region’s food supply, and remains an important part of Miami-Dade’s identity.
From Florida avocados to tropical fruits, Brooks Tropicals represents the hard work, innovation, and dedication required to keep local agriculture competitive and growing. Fernandez emphasized that farms and agricultural businesses are not only part of South Miami-Dade’s history, but also an important part of its present-day economy and future.
“Agriculture is part of the foundation of South Miami-Dade,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “Behind every product that reaches a store or a family’s table are farmers, growers, employees, and businesses working every day to keep this industry moving. Supporting agriculture means protecting jobs, supporting local families, and recognizing the people who continue investing in our community.”
Fernandez also highlighted the importance of hearing directly from agricultural businesses about the challenges facing the industry. He noted that maintaining communication with growers and employers helps public officials better understand the realities of operating agricultural businesses and the importance of preserving an environment where farming can continue to succeed for future generations.
Fernandez thanked Brooks Tropicals for opening its doors and the Dade County Farm Bureau for accompanying the visit and for its continued advocacy on behalf of local farmers and growers. He recognized the organization’s role in ensuring Miami-Dade’s agricultural community has a voice and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the people and businesses that keep South Florida agriculture strong.
