Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez attended a special ceremony hosted by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting recognizing individuals and institutions whose service has helped preserve the history of Cuba and advance the mission of Radio and Television Martí. The event brought together members of the Cuban exile community, public officials, and supporters of freedom to reflect on the sacrifices made in the pursuit of a free and democratic Cuba.
During the ceremony, commemorative plaques were dedicated in honor of Enrique Ros, Pedro Roig, and Brigade 2506. The recognitions served as a permanent tribute to their service, sacrifice, and commitment to the cause of Cuban freedom, ensuring that their contributions remain part of the historical record for future generations.
“As your Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I believe preserving this history is also a responsibility,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “For those of us who understand what it means to leave Cuba in search of freedom, these stories are deeply personal. We cannot allow the sacrifices of those who stood against communism and fought for a free Cuba to be forgotten.”
Fernandez also highlighted the importance of institutions such as Radio and Television Martí in preserving the truth about Cuba, giving voice to those who have been silenced, and keeping alive the principles of freedom, democracy, and human rights. He emphasized that remembering the past is essential not only to honor those who came before, but also to ensure future generations understand the cost of freedom.
Fernandez thanked the Office of Cuba Broadcasting for organizing the ceremony and for its continued work preserving the history and legacy of those who have dedicated their lives to the cause of Cuban freedom. He reaffirmed his commitment to honoring that legacy and supporting the hope for a free and democratic Cuba.
