Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez attended the official ceremony naming the Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart Highway, joining public officials, community leaders, friends, and supporters in recognizing the life and public service of the late Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart.
The ceremony paid tribute to Díaz-Balart’s decades of service to South Florida and his lasting influence on the community he represented. Throughout his career, he became a prominent voice for his constituents and a steadfast advocate for freedom and democracy, particularly for the people of Cuba and those throughout the Americas who have struggled against oppression.
“Lincoln Díaz-Balart dedicated decades of his life to serving South Florida and standing up for the principles he believed in,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “It was meaningful to be present alongside so many members of our community as his family, friends, and colleagues reflected on his life and the impact of his public service.”
The highway bearing his name will serve as a lasting reminder of Díaz-Balart’s connection to South Florida and the many years he spent representing the community in public office. Fernandez noted that recognitions such as this provide an opportunity for future generations to learn about those who helped shape the history of their community.
Fernandez thanked Senator Ileana Garcia and the City of Miami for their efforts surrounding the designation and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to attend the ceremony and pay his respects to Congressman Díaz-Balart’s family and legacy.
