Learn the requirements and documentation needed to transfer ownership of a Florida vehicle or vessel title.
To transfer ownership of a Florida vehicle or vessel title, you must provide proof of identity, properly complete the Florida Certificate of Title, maintain valid Florida insurance and registration (when applicable), and pay all required title and sales tax fees.
At a minimum, you will need the following:
- Proof of identity: A valid driver license, state-issued identification card, or passport.
- Proof of ownership: A properly completed Florida Certificate of Title.
Complete the Florida Certificate of Title as illustrated below:

Purchaser information:
- Purchaser's name.
- Purchaser's address.
- Selling price.
- Date of sale.
Odometer disclosure:
- Select whether the odometer contains 5 or 6 digits.
- Current odometer reading.
- Date the reading was recorded.
- Select the appropriate status (Actual, In Excess, or Not Actual).
- Seller's signature.
- Seller's printed name.
- Co-seller's signature (if applicable).
- Co-seller's printed name (if applicable).
Purchaser certification (to be completed by the purchaser only):
- Purchaser's signature.
- Purchaser's printed name.
- Co-purchaser's signature (if applicable).
- Co-purchaser's printed name (if applicable).
Important: It is recommended that the seller provide the purchaser with a bill of sale. If needed, you may use Form HSMV 82050.

- Payment of all applicable title and sales tax fees is required.
