Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez is reminding business owners that County Local Business Tax receipts expire September 30 and that renewal is not complete until two steps are finished: payment and Tax Collector Consent.
Local Business Tax receipts are issued for one year, from October 1 through September 30. Businesses located in a municipality may also be required to obtain that city’s receipt. The County receipt does not replace a city receipt.
Payment can be made online through BTExpress at mdctaxcollector.gov, by mail, or in person at any of our 13 offices throughout Miami-Dade County. Consent is an additional requirement. Pursuant to section 205.0532, Florida Statutes, the Tax Collector may revoke or refuse to renew a receipt if a business or its parent company is doing business with Cuba in violation of federal law. Owners must complete the attestation at consenthub.mdctaxcollector.gov attesting that they are not doing business with Cuba in violation of Federal Law. The receipt is not available to print until that attestation has been completed. Customers should allow up to three business days after submitting consent before printing.
“I come from small business. I know what the end of the month feels like when you are trying to close out, pay vendors, and keep the lights on,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “That is why we made renewal something you can finish from your phone or your laptop. Pay the Local Business Tax. Complete the consent declaration. Print your receipt. It takes a few minutes. Finish both steps by September 30 and you start October in good standing — no penalties, no scramble, no time away from your customers. If you get stuck, call my office. We are here to help you get it done.”
Receipts not renewed by September 30 become delinquent. The receipt holder is responsible for meeting the deadline.
Also, please know that false statements on the consent form constitutes perjury by false written declaration, a third-degree felony. Businesses that cannot truthfully make the declaration should not file one and should expect the receipt to be refused or revoked.
