Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez served as a speaker at the 28th InterAmerican Conference of Mayors and Local Authorities at PortMiami, joining mayors, elected officials, and government leaders from across the Americas for a discussion on public service, innovation, and the future of local government.
During his remarks, Fernandez shared the experience of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office and how technology is helping transform the way residents interact with government. From expanding access to services and reducing wait times to modernizing internal operations and bringing assistance closer to communities, Fernandez highlighted how innovation can help public institutions become more efficient and responsive.
“Technology gives government powerful tools, but innovation only matters when it improves people’s lives,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “Our responsibility is to use those tools to make services faster, easier to access, more transparent, and more efficient. Modernization should never be about technology for its own sake. It should always be about serving people better.”
Fernandez also emphasized the importance of governments continuing to evolve as residents’ expectations and technology change. He noted that public institutions must be willing to review outdated processes, adopt smarter systems, and find practical ways to make government easier to navigate while maintaining accountability and reliability.
Fernandez thanked the organizers of the 28th InterAmerican Conference of Mayors and Local Authorities for the opportunity to participate and exchange ideas with leaders from throughout the Americas. He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to modernize the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office and using innovation to deliver better public service to residents across the county.
